"Amis et Amiles"
Continuing my Medieval inspired Collection , this is "Amis et Amiles" a vase based on an old French romance that tells a legend of friendship and sacrifice. In its earlier and simpler form it is the story of two friends, one of whom, Amis, was sick with leprosy. A vision informed him that he could only be cured by bathing in the blood of Amiles' children. When Amiles learned this he killed the children, who were, however, miraculously restored to life after the cure of Amis.
In November 19, 1882, The New York Times published an article about French literature and mentioned this romance as a complex story not so well known probably dated earliest of the twelfth century: "Some of the descriptions are remarkably vivid, though there is a current of medieval ferocity that surges through it. "
Since the story brings such strong supportive friendship my first idea was of two vases connected by columns. The vases have the same shape, color and decoration elements, Amis and Amiles were both knights. When one needs support the other will be upside down as a symbol of Amiles' extreme action to save his friend.
Phonebook white pages are the paper used in all my Medieval line. It has shades of silver paint in some spots.
